Welcoming the new Vecor Technologies Work Integrated Learning cohort
We’re thrilled to announce the launch of a new cohort of 8 students who have begun their Work Integrated Learning (WIL) placements at UNSW’s Vecor labs. These students will engage in real-world research projects, tackling innovative challenges like producing hydrogen from seawater, developing next-generation sodium-ion batteries, recycling fly ash, and more.
The TRaCE WIL program bridges the gap between academia and industry, offering students the chance to work on industry-driven projects in clean energy, green fuels, solar tech, and circular economy. With placements ranging from 10 weeks to six months, students put their theoretical knowledge into practice, tackling technical challenges while contributing to real-world business objectives. This program aims to address skill shortages in Australia’s pathway towards decarbonisation by equipping students with the essential skills needed for jobs in this growing sector.
Building a talent pipeline for industry partners
Through this, industry partners gain access to a pool of motivated students excited to see their academic knowledge and fresh perspectives applied in practice. This partnership empowers businesses to develop innovative solutions while creating a pipeline of skilled, job-ready graduates who have already proven their value through practical, hands-on experience.
Empowering students: transforming education into career opportunities
The WIL offers students a unique opportunity to apply their academic skills in real-world settings, develop critical industry experience and expand their professional networks. It also enables students to focus on gaining valuable insights while working alongside industry leaders, accelerating their journey toward future career success.
The TRaCE WIL program is more than just a placement, it’s a catalyst for bridging the future skills gap and accelerating the commercialisation of academic innovations. By enabling students to work directly with industries, we are fostering a new generation of professionals equipped to drive sustainable solutions and meet the demands of a rapidly evolving marketplace.
